- Coil condition, condenser fan current, and the real temperature of the air the machine has to dump heat into. At 115 outside, a coil packed with dust is the whole difference between coping in February and losing the fresh-food side in August.
- Where the frost is sitting
- The frost pattern on the evaporator separates airflow from a defrost heater from a thermostat from a blocked drain. A rock-hard freezer above warm shelves is an air fault, not a gas fault, and it gets proved before a part is quoted.
- Compressor draw, start to cut-out
- Start current, overload behaviour, run current, and how long it goes before it cycles off at all. It is also the one reading that occasionally ends with us telling you to keep your money and put it towards a machine.
